Barbara_Whitehouse_1 I have always expressed myself through drawing and painting. I can clearly remember painting at the age of four on the kitchen table and feeling happy.

For a long time scenes of domesticity, still life and flowers from my garden were themes. Then life drawing became a source of inspiration. Now I am interested in landscape and seeds. I am also working with old fabric and stitching beside my usual practice of painting and drawing.

Early childhood memories of coloured pencils and colouring books have inspired me to seek again the simplicity and beauty of drawing with just a pencil.

I like looking at things from three different angles. For example, in a landscape, to look at it from above, at ground level and below ground. The triptych is an effective way to express these perspectives.

At the moment I teach drawing in my home.  This is a great source of inspiration and joy for me.
